Wijnie E. De Groot

Wijnie de Groot has been teaching Dutch at Columbia since 2000. She currently teaches Dutch at the elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. She also teaches a course on 17th century Dutch and paleography. In addition to her regular courses, she developed and teaches a summer course for PhD students (Modern Dutch for Reading Knowledge and Reading 17th Century Texts). She teaches most of her courses through the Shared Course Initiative, in conjunction with Yale and Cornell University.

Her research interests include the history of the Dutch language (specifically early modern Dutch) and the history of the Low Countries.

Wijnie holds an MA in Slavic Languages (University of Amsterdam, 1982) and an MA in General Linguistics (University of Amsterdam, 1985).
