*Grand Design: Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Renaissance Tapestry*

The first major monographic exhibition devoted to the great 16th-century Netherlandish artist Pieter Coecke van Aelst (1502-1550) will open at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on October 8, 2014. Grand Design: Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Renaissance Tapestry will explore the artist’s career and reunite many of the finest surviving drawings, panel paintings, and cartoon fragments from his hand with 19 of the spectacular Renaissance tapestries that were made to his designs.

September 26-October 12
“The Last Hijack,” the story of an accomplished Somali pirate’s last hijack. The film combines documentary and animation and will be accompanied by an interactive presentation investigating modern day piracy. The online experience will be presented as part of New York Film Festival on Sunday September 28th at 1.30pm, followed by a screening of the film at 8pm.
The panel is part of New York Film Festival’s program CONVERGENCE, which focuses on new media and showcases innovative work by makers who are blurring the lines between traditional arts and technologies to create a bold new form of storytelling that spans multiple platforms. The series features films, panels, workshops and interactive presentations and lasts the whole weekend.
